# Virals: Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri ‘close’ to Lazio switch

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/27/virals-ryan-gravenberch-billed-as-most-intriguing-player-on-reds-radar/) could be set to achieve the first major departure of the summer transfer window as [Xherdan Shaqiri](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/16/xherdan-shaqiri-to-make-decision-on-future-after-euro-2020/) reportedly nears the Anfield exit.

The Reds are expected to undergo somewhat of a [squad clearout](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-sell-11-players-millions-20264292) in order to furnish Jurgen Klopp with a budget to strengthen the ranks.

Shaqirir, currently preparing to [face France](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/news/0254-0d41684d1216-06773df7faed-1000--euro-2020-fixtures-and-results/) with Switzerland at Euro 2020, is one of those linked with a move away should the right offers be forthcoming.

According to a report from [TuttoMercatoWeb](https://m.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-lazio-caccia-agli-esterni-contatti-con-shaqiri-e-si-continua-a-lavorare-per-brandt-1552062), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1409092925506699268) on Twitter, the 29-year-old could be on the way to Lazio.

The report cites interest from the [Serie A](https://www.skysports.com/serie-a-table) side in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt whilst claiming a deal for Shaqiri ‘could become concrete’ in the near future.

Previous [reports](https://www.calciomercato.it/2020/03/30/calciomercato-roma-ritorno-di-fiamma-per-shaqiri-le-ultime-di-cm-it/) have claimed the Reds would demand somewhere in the region of £16-18million for the [94-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/nationalmannschaft/spieler/86792/verein_id/3384) Swiss ace.

During a relatively injury-free 2020/21 campaign for the left-footed winger, Shaqiri made just [22 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdaten/spieler/86792) across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £10.8million and under contract until 2023 at Anfield ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/marktwertverlauf/spieler/86792)), Liverpool’s valuation is in line with the players’ situation.

The time has certainly come to allow Switzerland international to leave the club, especially as Klopp looks to rebuild a [squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) to fight for the Premier League title.

Moreover, the emergence and subsequent return of Harvey Elliott from a season-long loan spell at Blackburn Rovers should [replace many of Shaqiri’s minutes](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/harvey-elliott-liverpool-blackburn-loan-24046295) in the side.
