# Virals: Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott ‘set to replace’ Xherdan Shaqiri

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/27/virals-james-milner-shows-off-during-training-before-mocking-teammate/) youngster [Harvey Elliott](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/09/virals-harvey-elliott-signs-new-long-term-liverpool-contract/) could be set to replace Xherdan Shaqiri’s squad role at Anfield.

This comes as the Swiss international [confirms his openness](https://football-italia.net/shaqiri-honoured-by-lazio-interest-sarris-style-intrigues-me/) to a move away from the Reds whilst attracting interest from Serie A duo Napoli and Lazio.

Instead of seeking a replacement from elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp is said have a ready-made prospect [already in the ranks](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) on Merseyside.

According to a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2730547/2021/07/27/john-terry-improved-villa-and-raised-standards-he-will-leave-a-big-hole/), as cited by [Anfield Edition](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEdition) on Twitter, the talented 18-year-old is considered primed to take over from the departing winger.

Elliott spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship and directly [contributed to 18 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harvey-elliott/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/565822) in 41 league outings.

That form earned the teenager a [new contract](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/437550-harvey-elliott-signs-new-long-term-liverpool-contract) on his return and could be set to earn a place in Klopp’s plans for the 2021/22 campaign.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Already holding a [market value of £13.5million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harvey-elliott/marktwertverlauf/spieler/565822) despite his fledgeling years, Elliott has certainly captured the imagination of all who have crossed his path.

Utilised as a [central attacking midfielder](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-klopp-philippe-coutinho-elliott-24613895) during Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies so far, perhaps there is an alternative role to simply acting as an understudy to Mohamed Salah.

While new signings are always craved amongst the fanbase, allowing the former Fulham academy prospect to take [Shaqiri’s sporadic minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/86792) and perhaps feature in domestic cups makes an abundance of sense.

Elliott isn’t the only teenage sensation staking a claim for first-team recognition as 16-year-old Kaide Gordon also [pushes for a place](https://theathletic.com/2729142/2021/07/27/liverpools-academy-is-proving-lucrative/) in Klopp’s squad.

The future and hopfully the upcoming season certinly seems filled with promise.
