# Virals: Mike Dean to take charge as Liverpool host Burnley at Anfield

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/17/virals-ben-davies-speaks-out-following-liverpool-loan-departure/) will kickstart their home Premier League campaign on Saturday at lunchtime with the visit of Burnley to Anfield.

The Reds will hope to make the L4 home a fortress once again after the Lancashire club brought an end to a [68 game unbeaten run](https://talksport.com/football/821694/burnley-stun-champions-liverpool-home-record-anfield-premier-league/) last season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side fell short of their usual high standards in multiple areas last term, culminating in a [wretched loss of form](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/blog-the-toe-poke/story/4332624/lets-talk-about-six-liverpool-fall-to-another-home-defeat) on Merseyside.

Now [back to winning ways](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58124894) and with key players back to fitness, things are looking up at Anfield.

Saturday’s fixture will be refereed by Mike Dean – the same official who took charge [last season](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/55760761) – and Stuart Atwell will be on VAR duty.

The appointments were [confirmed](https://www.premierleague.com/news/2221393) by the Premier League and cited by [The Anfield Talk](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1427295141287583746) on Twitter.

Klopp could welcome back Curtis Jones, [Jordan Henderson](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/16/virals-liverpool-reach-agreement-in-principle-with-jordan-henderson/) and Thiago for the meeting as all three edge closer to full fitness.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

After a dismal showing almost exclusively from officials throughout last season in terms of on-field decisions and use of VAR, the opening weekend went by [almost without a hitch](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/08/16/premier-league-referees-have-finally-learned-lessons-improvements/) or contentious moment.

Hopefully, the [upcoming fixtures](https://www.premierleague.com/news/2171434) will produce more of the same and Klopp’s men can right the wrongs of last season against a stubborn Burnley side.
