# Virals: New Liverpool man Ibrahima Konate ‘en route’ to the UK

New [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/01/virals-liverpool-target-kylian-mbappe-will-not-extend-psg-deal/) signing [Ibrahima Konate](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/23/liverpool-konate-party/) looks to be on the way to the UK ahead of commencing a carer at Anfield.

The Frenchman officially became a Red today after [agreeing a £36million switch](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435628-liverpool-agree-deal-to-sign-ibrahima-konate-from-rb-leipzig) from RB Leipzig earlier in the transfer window.

If the 22-year-old’s social media activity is anything to go by, Konate could be heading to Merseyside in order to begin [preparations for a first pre-season](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-klopp-preseason-man-utd-24212509) with Jurgen Klopp in the coming weeks.

As the central defender prepares for life as a Liverpool player, coach Peter Krawietz has told the [club’s official website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/437041-explained-why-liverpool-coaches-admire-ibrahima-konate-quality-potential) some of the qualities that attracted the Reds.

“In him, we see the absolute potential to develop into a world-class centre-half. That’s of course what we want.”

Konate has made [66 Bundesliga appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ibrahima-konate/leistungsdaten/spieler/357119) during a burgeoning career thus far and will hope to make an immediate impact on Merseyside.

Time to get excited Kopites.

After a [turbulent campaign](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/liverpool-injuries-which-players-are-out-when-will-they/180055299z10c110h1epjsvvad), in particular, in the defensive department, Klopp will suddenly have an embarrassment of riches on his hands when it comes to choosing two central defenders.

With Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez on the [brink of making a return](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/433769-virgil-van-dijk-exclusive-interview-injury-pre-season-comeback) to fitness, as well as the emergence of Nat Phillips, Liverpool suddenly have options aplenty.

A true [physical specimen](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/ibrahima-konate-who-is-the-rb-leipzig-france-defender-upamecano-liverpool-10647), Konate will no doubt be out to prove he is the man to start the 2021/22 campaign as the first choice.
