# Virals: ‘No agreement’ for Liverpool target following latest meeting

On Friday it was [reported](https://football-italia.net/liverpool-pounce-on-locatelli/) that [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/30/virals-jason-mcateer-lauds-harvey-elliott-following-friendly-display/) had ‘entered the race’ for Sassuolo midfielder [Manuel Locatelli](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/30/virals-liverpool-enter-the-race-for-sassuolo-midfielder-manuel-locatelli/) – joining Juventus and Arsenal as the main protagonists for the Italian.

The Reds’ perceived participation could have proven to be short-lived as the two Serie A clubs were [scheduled to meet once again](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12961/12367862/manuel-locatelli-juventus-to-hold-transfer-talks-with-sassuolo-over-italy-midfielder) to discuss a possible transfer.

However, according to [Sky Sports Italia](https://sport.sky.it/calciomercato/2021/07/30/juve-locatelli-calciomercato-news), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1421206903099691009) on Twitter, those negotiations have been fruitless.

Another report from journalist [Gianluca di Marzio](https://gianlucadimarzio.com/it/juventus-locatelli-sassuolo-calciomercato-aggiornamenti-30-luglio-2021) states that the parties will meet for a fourth time in an attempt to strike a deal for the 23-year-old as the Old Lady stand firm on a [loan move](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1421207574070890498) with an obligation to buy.

Locatelli is hot property following a superb domestic campaign backed up by playing a [key role](https://www.sofascore.com/player/manuel-locatelli/363860) in Italy’s success at the European Championships this summer.

The [15-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-locatelli/nationalmannschaft/spieler/265088/verein_id/3376) ace scored twice at Euro 2020 having netted [four times and registered three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-locatelli/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/265088) in 34 league outings last season.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £31.5million and under contract at Sassuolo until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-locatelli/marktwertverlauf/spieler/265088)), signing Locatelli for the [mooted £34million asking price](https://football-italia.net/locatelli-to-juve-no-agreement-after-todays-meeting/) would be a relative bargain.

Albeit predominantly a defensive midfielder – a role reserved for Fabinho – the Italian is capable of [operating in a box to box role](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-locatelli/leistungsdaten/spieler/265088) at the heart of any side.

Possessing a [range of attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/273539/Show/Manuel-Locatelli) that would make the star the ideal Gini Wijnaldum replacement, whilst Juve may still be favourites, Liverpool would be wise to swoop as soon as possible.
