# Virals: Philippe Coutinho wants ‘dream’ return to Liverpool

Former [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/27/virals-liverpool-youngster-liam-millar-close-to-permanent-departure/) star [Philippe Coutinho](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/22/liverpool-fans-react-as-reds-could-land-further-e20m-from-coutinho-deal/) is believed to hold aspirations of making a ‘dream’ return to the Reds.

Having endured a difficult time in Barcelona after manufacturing a sensational £142million switch in 2018 ([The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/06/philippe-coutinho-join-barcelona-142m-deal-liverpool)), the Brazilian playmaker could be considering the next step this summer.

The 28-year-old spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Bayern Munich before making just [14 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdaten/spieler/80444) across all competitions last term back at the Camp Nou.

According to a report from Spanish newspaper *[Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/mercado-fichajes/coutinho-debera-rebajarse-sueldo-salir-barca-barsa-barcelona-inter-11858375),* as cited by [The Anfield Buzz](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldBuzz/status/1408761358833926148) on Twitter, Coutinho would relish a return to Anfield.

The report claims that it is ‘possible’ Coutinho could leave the Catalan giants after an [injury-hit campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/verletzungen/spieler/80444) and that ‘everything will depend on the footballer himself’.

Signed for £8.5million from Inter Milan ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/21266402)), the [63-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/nationalmannschaft/spieler/80444/verein_id/3439) Brazil ace was a revelation on Merseyside and established himself as a leading player in the Premier League with [54 goals and 45 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/80444) in 201 outings for the Reds.

Currently valued at £27million and under contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/marktwertverlauf/spieler/80444)), Liverpool would likely be reticent to shell out a large sum for a controversial return.

Having shied away from using an archetypal number 10 since the Brazilian’s departure, there have been [calls in certain quarters](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/carragher-claims-liverpool-need-sign-number-10-klopp-never-wanted) to reintegrate a playmaker into Jurgen Klopp’s side.

A player of [Coutinho’s ilk](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/80767/Show/Philippe-Coutinho) feeding the ammunition for Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota is a mouth-watering proposition.

Capable of [magic moments](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/philippe-coutinho-rediscovers-magic-touch-hat-trick-two-assists-bayern-munich-bremen-8711) and the truly spectacular, at the right price the Reds could well be landing a reborn star at a bargain fee.
