# Virals: Premier League duo ‘leading chase’ for Nat Phillips

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/22/virals-harry-wilson-wanted-by-at-least-six-clubs-this-summer/) defender [Nat Phillips](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/16/virals-liverpool-defender-nat-phillips-attracting-premier-league-interest/) is attracting interest from a number of Premier League sides following an impressive breakthrough campaign for the Reds.

The 24-year-old became the unlikely hero last term as Jurgen Klopp’s [squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) was decimated by defensive injuries.

As the German manager [prepares to welcome back](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/428712-jurgen-klopp-explains-return-timescales-for-gomez-matip-and-van-dijk) Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to pre-season next month, the potential availability of Phillips has unsurprisingly altered many rivals.

Burnley and Brighton are among the leading contenders whilst [Newcastle and Southampton](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) have also made their interest known.

This is according to a report from [Goal](https://www.goal.com/en/news/burnley-and-brighton-leading-chase-for-liverpool-defender/6wyal4vrk7661ucbw5tbchz5r), as cited by [Anfield Watch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1407302314751373315) on Twitter.

The report claims as things stand there is a [reluctance to see Phillips leave](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-nat-phillips-transfer-10m-20715270) Anfield, although that could change should lofty offers be forthcoming.

Born in Bolton, the no-nonsense central defender endeared himself to Kopites with a string of [impressive](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9598295/Throwback-Nat-Phillips-story-dreams-insists-Jamie-Redknapp.html) performances – capped off with a [goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/leistungsdaten/spieler/371814) against Burnley.

During 2020/21, the former Stuttgart loanee made 20 outings for the Reds – earning an average [Sofascore rating of 7.19](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nathaniel-phillips/920393) in the Premier League.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Phillips has joined an exponential rise in market value over the last 12 months and is now valued at £7.2million and under contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/marktwertverlauf/spieler/371814)).

The report suggests it’s likely Liverpool would demand a fee in the region of £12million for the ace, especially given [how high](https://www.football365.com/news/transfer-gossip-liverpool-summer-transfer-budget-phillips-keita-40m) his stock currently is.

Whilst many would like to see Phillips have an opportunity to remain part of Klopp’s plans, given the level of competition already in place and the [signing of Ibrahima Konate](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435628-liverpool-agree-deal-to-sign-ibrahima-konate-from-rb-leipzig), chances would be few and far between.

Having had a [good taste](https://www.football365.com/news/opinion-phillips-contract-liverpool-klopp-favourite-player) of first-team football, the player himself will likely have ambitions of grandeur and a move could suit all parties.

Whatever happens this summer, Kopites everywhere will be forever grateful for Phillips’ efforts during a difficult 2020/21 season.
