# Virals: PSV chief offers Liverpool hope in Cody Gakpo pursuit

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/02/03/andy-robertson-hails-serious-player-following-old-firm-display/) look to have been offered a huge boost in their pursuit of PSV Eindhoven forward [Cody Gakpo](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/28/journalist-says-liverpool-have-been-watching-psv-starlet-cody-gakpo/).

The Reds have been [linked](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-news-jurgen-klopp-transfer-26037578) with the 22-year-old recently and it would appear that the Dutch Eredivisie club are all too aware of the interest.

Already a senior Holland international and an integral part of Roger Schmidt’s side, Gakpo has enjoyed an [impressive 2021/22 campaign](https://www.sofascore.com/player/cody-gakpo/862967) so far.

Speaking to [Voetbal Primeur](https://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/nieuws/1016381/de-jong-ik-weet-niet-hoe-lang-psv-hem-uit-handen-van-grote-clubs-kan-houden.html), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1488898485952864262) on Twitter, PSV chief John de Jong admitted keeping the talented forward may prove difficult.

> The interest started early in the season, when he performed well, also with the Dutch national team. My goal is to keep him for the season at all times. I don’t know how long we can keep him out of the hands of the big clubs in Europe. How he performs is the most important thing.

Capped [four times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdaten/spieler/434675) by the Netherlands, Gakpo was described as a player who [‘has everything’](https://nos.nl/collectie/13873/artikel/2395692-gakpo-is-klaar-voor-basisplaats-oranje-hij-gaat-belangrijke-speler-worden) by Theo Janssen.

This term the PSV academy graduate has [scored 10 times and provided 11 assists in 28 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdaten/spieler/434675) across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £19.8million and under contract until 2026 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/marktwertverlauf/spieler/434675)), Liverpool would have to pay the full [£25million asking price](https://www.vi.nl/nieuws/manchester-city-en-liverpool-azen-op-gakpo) in order to stand any chance of signing the starlet.

That fee should be no problem for a player with such a high ceiling and who already boasts a [host of attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/352825/Show/Cody-Gakpo) that would endear Jurgen Klopp to the deal.

Capable of [playing across the frontline](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/434675) and making an impact at a first-team level for sometime, Gakpo should certainly be high on the agenda at Anfield this summer.
