# Virals: Real Madrid ‘keeping tabs’ on Liverpool star Joe Gomez

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/21/virals-liverpool-target-sergej-milinkovic-savic-nearing-lazio-exit/) central defender [Joe Gomez](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/20/virals-liverpool-have-received-an-offer-for-joe-gomez-from-epl-rivals/) has reportedly attracted the attention of Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old is believed to be on the [shortlist at the Bernabeu](https://therealchamps.com/2021/12/08/real-madrid-3-early-priority-transfer-targets-summer-2022/) as Carlo Ancelotti looks for defensive reinforcements.

Despite one time being the favoured partner alongside Virgil van Dijk, Gomez has fallen [down the pecking order](https://www.sofascore.com/player/joe-gomez/318927) in recent months since returning from a serious knee injury.

Now, according to a report from the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10332739/Real-Madrid-keeping-tabs-Liverpool-defender-Joe-Gomez.html), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom) on Twitter, *Los Blancos* are keen on striking a deal.

The report claims that the Spanish giants are ‘monitoring’ the situation surrounding the [11-cap England man](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/256178/verein_id/3299) ahead of a potential summer swoop.

So far this season Gomez has made [nine appearances across all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/leistungsdaten/spieler/256178) and could feature in tonight’s (December 22) Carabao Cup clash with Leicester City.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £27million and under contract at Anfield until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/256178)), Liverpool will certainly be in no hurry to resolve the Englishman’s future.

However, having previously been a [key part](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/394169-joe-gomez-explains-connection-with-virgil-van-dijk) of Jurgen Klopp’s side, there will no doubt be concerns from the player as to his current role.

Injuries and subsequent [fitness issues](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/verletzungen/spieler/256178) have curtailed the former Charlton man’s natural progression on Merseyside, but there is no chance of Klopp losing faith.

Long-term it would seem the natural successors to Joel Matip and Van Dijk are already in place in the shape of Ibrahima Konate and Gomez – the question is – is the [130 appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/256178) Red willing to be patient?
