# Virals: Refereeing appointments confirmed for crucial Liverpool clash

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/15/virals-liverpool-reportedly-set-mohamed-salah-price-tag/) have had their fair share of run-ins with officials this season as [controversial VAR decisions](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9470115/Our-reporters-pick-worst-VAR-decision-theyve-seen-football.html), in particular, have plagued the 2020/21 campaign.

As highlighted by [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/english-premier-league/story/4182135/how-var-decisions-affected-every-premier-league-club-in-2020-21), the Reds have suffered most, along with West Brom this season in terms of decisions going against them – losing six points in the process.

Those points would see [Jurgen Klopp](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/14/virals-jurgen-klopp-names-mohamed-salah-as-his-top-signing-ever/)‘s side safely [inside the top four](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) with three games remaining and their destiny all but sealed.

However, Liverpool head into the [final three matches](https://www.skysports.com/liverpool-fixtures) needing nine points to secure UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.

Given the influence officials have had this season, the [appointments](https://www.premierleague.com/referees/overview) are often greeted with a flurry of attention.

On Sunday Klopp’s men will be greeted by referee Mike Dean and Kevin Friend will be on VAR duty when they travel to The Hawthorns to face West Brom, as cited by [The Anfield Talk](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1393125986804379648) on Twitter.

Whilst Liverpool will hope the run-in isn’t [marred by any controversial decisions](https://www.givemesport.com/1649912-liverpool-video-reemerges-showing-the-number-of-var-decisions-that-have-gone-against-them), they also shouldn’t be relying on officials in order to get them over the line.

Following the glory in 2019/20, an entire campaign [without fans](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/matt-busby-quote-sets-celtic-22242866), relentless fixture pileups and at times questionable refereeing – it’s safe to say this term truly has been a struggle.

With just three must-win games left and supporters due at Anfield on the final day – Liverpool could be set to salvage what has been an otherwise [wretched season](https://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/are-liverpool-really-bad-champions/189106).
