# Virals: Report identifies Odsonne Edouard as ‘new transfer target’

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/02/virals-liverpool-reportedly-weighing-up-an-offer-for-declan-rice/) could look towards Celtic striker [Odsonne Edouard](https://readceltic.com/2021/07/01/virals-odsonne-edouard-spotted-in-celtic-training/) as an alternative option to bolster the attacking options in the squad.

The 23-year-old Frenchman is widely [expected to seek a new challenge](https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/18993336.celtic-striker-odsonne-edouard-steps-plans-leave-parkhead-first-opportunity/) this summer having shone north of the border for numerous seasons.

Having been tipped to rejoin former Hoops and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, the Foxes [signing Patson Daka](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11712/12345487/patson-daka-leicester-city-complete-23m-transfer-of-zambian-striker-from-rb-salzburg) could have cleared the way in a bizarre twist of fate.

According to a report from the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-news-latest-live-20951040), as cited by [Liverpool FC News](https://twitter.com/LivEchoLFC/status/1410944346359222275) on Twitter, Edouard could emerge as a candidate.

The report claims that the star’s ‘age, current ability and potential’ make the [France youth international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/344152/verein_id/9323) a ‘serious’ possibility this summer.

Despite the struggles moreover at Parkhead last season – as Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard lifted the Scottish title for Rangers – Edouard remained a constant threat and netted [16 league goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/344152) in 26 outings.

Formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, the powerful French ace was once [hailed](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/magnificent-celtic-star-odsonne-edouard-19524116) as ‘magnificent’ by Neil Lennon during a career that has produced [83 goals in 168 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/344152) for the Glasgow giants.

Valued at £15.3million and into the last 12 months of a deal in Scotland ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/344152)), the Reds could and themselves a relative bargain in the market.

One major drawback is the Frenchman’s inability to play in differing roles, acting [almost exclusively](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/344152) as a central striker.

Otherwise, as a [potential replacement](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/liverpool-transfer-news-seven-exits-suggested-origi-shaqiri-karius) for Divock Origi, Edouard would make for a worthwhile squad addition.
