# Virals: Trent Alexander-Arnold continues on ‘road to recovery’

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/24/andros-townsend-claims-john-mcginn-is-perfect-for-liverpool/) full-back [Trent Alexander-Arnold](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/04/virals-trent-alexander-arnold-absolutely-gutted-to-miss-euro-2020/) cut a dejected figure after a thigh injury ruled him out of England duty for the ongoing Euro 2020 competition.

The 22-year-old had [earned a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad](https://theathletic.com/news/trent-alexander-arnold-england-euro-2020-squad/SvjPDusPGkJZ) before cruelly picking up the muscle problem in a friendly at Wembley.

Originally [ruled out](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jun/03/englands-trent-alexander-arnold-ruled-out-of-euro-2020-with-thigh-injury) of action for between four and six weeks, the Scouser appears to be making good progress towards a return in an [image posted](https://twitter.com/TrentAA/status/1407706565738631168?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1407706565738631168%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.anfieldwatch.co.uk%2Fphotos-key-liverpool-player-takes-to-twitter-to-provide-fitness-update%2F) on social media.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are [returning to pre-season](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-klopp-preseason-man-utd-24212509) on July 12, a date Alexander-Arnold may well be working towards.

There was yet more positive news for the German manager this week as Mohamed Salah was [refused permission](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/mohamed-salah-liverpool-ibrahima-konate-20881466) to participate in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The same decision is expected to be made over new signing Ibrahima Konate, whilst Takumi Minamino was [omitted](https://www.firstpost.com/sports/tokyo-olympics-2020-maya-yoshida-takefusa-kubo-headline-18-man-japan-football-squad-9743691.html) from the Japan squad for the tournament.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Albeit picking up an injury is never ideal, many associated with Liverpool will be thankful Alexander-Arnold was [ruled out](https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/international/england-s-trent-alexander-arnold-ruled-out-of-euro-2020-1.4583538#:~:text=Trent%20Alexander%2DArnold%20has%20been,Wednesday's%20friendly%20win%20over%20Austria.&text=%E2%80%9CThe%20Liverpool%20player%20sustained%20a,win%20against%20Austria%20in%20Middlesbrough.) when he was and not later on in the summer break.

All told many international Reds are getting a richly deserved break from the action, with Diogo Jota perhaps the [heaviest worked](https://www.sofascore.com/player/diogo-jota/606164) thus far.

Captain Jordan Henderson has only [recently returned to the fold](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/jordan-henderson-hands-england-fitness-24255813) for England and both Thiago and Roberto Firmino have been scarcely used by their respective nations.

Klopp will be hopeful all his star names return to [Kirkby](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/training-ground) with a clean bill of health, fit and raring to go.
