# Virals: Twitter in frenzy as Saul Niguez to Liverpool rumours intensify

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/09/otd-liverpool-signed-harry-kewell-from-leeds-united/) could be nearing a second summer signing as various [reports](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/saul-niguez-links-continue-theme-21005843) begin to link [Saul Niguez](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/08/virals-liverpool-set-to-go-on-the-offensive-in-saul-niguez-pursuit/) with a move to the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp is widely [expected to add a midfielder](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-news-live-doku-20987668) to the ranks in order to replace the void left by Gini Wijnaldum and may have found the ideal candidate.

The 26-year-old is believed to be on the radar at Anfield and according to [Diario AS](https://as.com/futbol/2021/07/08/primera/1625761923_710421.html?m1=cG9ydGFkYV9wb3J0YWRh&m2=QUNUVUFMSURBRA%3D%3D&m3=MQ%3D%3D&m4=dmlkZW8%3D&m5=MjQ%3D) in Spain, Liverpool are indeed ‘leading the race’ for the versatile midfielder.

Now, the host of [The Terrance](https://www.youtube.com/c/TheFootballTerrace/featured), Terry Flewers has caused a stir on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/terryflewers/status/1413471890094444551) by intimating a deal could well be on the verge of completion.

Speculation has certainly [started to gather pace](https://www.larazon.es/deportes/laotraliga/20210701/scxiplu2pjag7b6tomrh5inqh4.html) in Spain and beyond, with a mooted £34.2million potentially enough to see the Reds land their man.

Capped on [19 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/148928/verein_id/3375) at senior level, Saul has spent his entire career in his homeland, graduating through the Atletico academy having made the [cross-city switch](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/transfers/spieler/148928) from arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Aside from a season on loan at Rayo Vallecano early on, the star has played all senior football for the Colchoneros, amassing [337 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/148928) overall.

Despite undergoing somewhat of a [drop off in terms of attacking output](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148928) last term, Saul still played a [huge part](https://www.sofascore.com/player/saul-niguez/116955) in a La Liga title-winning campaign.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing Saul would certainly be the perfect antidote to a departing Wijnaldum.

Immensely versatile, the Spaniard can [play almost anywhere in midfield](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148928) with aplomb.

Valued at £36million and under contract until 2026 at the Wanda Metropolitano ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/148928)), the mooted valuations would represent a major bargain for the Reds.
