# Virals: Virgil van Dijk ‘can’t wait’ to return for Liverpool

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/24/virals-trent-alexander-arnold-delivers-warning-to-the-rest-of-the-pl/) defender [Virgil van Dijk](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/20/david-james-claims-nat-phillips-could-partner-virgil-van-dijk/) has, like most of us, taken up a watching brief for much of the 2020/21 campaign having [missed a majority](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/virgil-van-dijk-injury-update-return-date-liverpool-euro-2020-latest-news-997769) with anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Despite the talismanic Dutchman’s absence along with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for much of the season, Jurgen Klopp’s side rallied in the run-in to [finish third](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) and secure UEFA Champions League football for next term.

The 29-year-old watched on from the stands at Anfield as the Reds [overcame Crystal Palace 2-0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7PYhEkQg4U) on the final day and Van Dijk took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/VirgilvDijk/status/1396542122644447235) after the natch to recognise the achievement and speak of his own comeback.

Prior to the [moment at Goodison Park](https://talksport.com/football/778111/jordan-pickford-tackle-virgil-van-dijk-everton-vs-liverpool-referees/) that saw the Dutch captain’s season come to a premature end, Van Dijk had played five times in the Premier League – earning an average [Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/virgil-van-dijk/151545) of 6.68.

Liverpool will have let out a huge sigh of relief last week when the [£63million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/virgil-van-dijk/marktwertverlauf/spieler/139208#:~:text=Centre%2DBack%22.-,With%20a%20market%20value%20of%20%C2%A363.00m%2C%20Virgil%20van,players%20of%20the%20Premier%20League.) centre-back confirmed he [wouldn’t be available](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/may/12/virgil-van-dijk-rules-out-euro-2020-return-to-focus-on-fitness-at-liverpool#:~:text=With%20everything%20that%20is%20going,and%20that's%20a%20realistic%20goal.) to the Netherlands for the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament.
