# Virals: Virgil van Dijk sends Liverpool fans crazy with social media post

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/26/virals-liverpool-hold-great-interest-in-kingsley-coman/) defender [Virgil van Dijk](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/10/virals-joe-gomez-and-virgil-van-dijk-continue-rehabilitation-in-portugal/) has once again been keeping Kopites updated as the comeback from a traumatic injury continues.

The 29-year-old Dutchman missed the majority of the 2020/21 campaign after suffering an [anterior cruciate knee ligament injury](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/virgil-van-dijk-injury-update-return-date-liverpool-euro-2020-latest-news-997769) against Everton back in October.

Compounded by the [long-term absences](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/424517-jurgen-klopp-confirms-joel-matip-injury-diagnosis) of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, Jurgen Klopp’s side struggled to a [third-place Premier League finish](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) as reigning champions.

The Reds will be hoping the trio can return to full fitness ahead of next term and Van Dijk has been whetting the appetite on [social media](https://twitter.com/NxsirNx/status/1408786018388611072).

Unsurprisingly Liverpool fans were delighted to see the footage and the Dutch colossus added a [collection of images](https://twitter.com/VirgilvDijk) to further heighten expectations.

The [38-cap ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/virgil-van-dijk/nationalmannschaft/spieler/139208/verein_id/3379) and Holland captain made the decision earlier this year to miss the European Championships and instead focus on getting ready for 2021/22.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

After being left [bereft of frontline options](https://www.givemesport.com/1652534-liverpools-centreback-pairings-ranked-van-dijk-henderson-kabak) last term, Klopp could have a positive defensive selection headache on the horizon.

With Van Dijk clearly close to a return, Gomez and Matip likely to be ready during pre-season and the [signing of Ibrahima Konate](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435628-liverpool-agree-deal-to-sign-ibrahima-konate-from-rb-leipzig) – there are at least four high-quality centre-back options.

Throw the [heroes of the run-in](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/434196-nat-phillips-and-rhys-williams-have-created-proper-careers-now) Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams into the mix, as well as the lesser-seen Ben Davies, Liverpool could be overrun with options in the coming months.

What is for sure is that Van Dijk’s return will be warmly welcomed.
