# Virals: West Ham make approach for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

West Ham have reportedly made an approach to check on the availability of [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/19/virals-liverpool-make-contact-with-sporting-lisbon-star-pedro-goncalves/) midfielder [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/04/virals-borussia-dortmund-interested-in-alex-oxlade-chamberlain/).

The 27-year-old has struggled to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s first team this season – making just [15 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/leistungsdaten/spieler/143424) across all competitions.

Despite often featuring on the periphery of the squad, the [35-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/nationalmannschaft/spieler/143424/verein_id/3299) England ace is rarely afforded an opportunity from the outset.

Having missed the first three months of the campaign with a knee injury picked up during a pre-season trip to Austria, Oxlade-Chamberlain has [started just two games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/143424/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/31) in the Premier League.

All of this has lead to speculation as to whether there remains a long-term future at Anfield for the attacking-midfielder – an avenue the Hammers are open to exploring.

According to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-west-ham-make-approach-to-sign-liverpool-star-oxlade-chamberlain-as-asking-price-revealed/), as cited by [Anfield Watch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1394919871000031237) on Twitter, ex-Everton manager David Moyes is interested in signing the Liverpool star this summer.

The Reds are believed to value Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has [three years left](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/profil/spieler/143424) on his contract at Anfield, at around the £22m mark four million higher than his perceived market value ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/marktwertverlauf/spieler/143424)).

[Described](https://www.skysports.com/search?q=Leon+Osman&searchtype=the+site&v=2) as ‘brilliant’ by former cross-park rival Leon Osman, on his day there is no doubting the ex-Arsenal man’s ability.

Many Kopites may admit with a heavy heart that time could well be up for the dynamic midfielder on Merseyside.

Despite playing an inspirational role during his peak form prior to a [horrendous knee injury suffered against Roma](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jul/18/alex-oxlade-chamberlain-out-for-season-knee-injury-liverpool) in 2018, ultimately the ‘Ox’ has struggled to recapture anywhere close to his best form since.

Klopp needs fresh faces in the squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s high valuation could be viewed as a commodity worth cashing in on.
