# Virgil an Dijk and Joe Gomez send Liverpool fans into raptures

On the eve of what looks set to be a monumental [Merseyside derby](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/match/2020-21/first-team/fixtures-and-results) for a host of reasons, [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/19/carlo-ancelotti-confirms-dominic-calvert-lewin-and-allan-are-available/)‘s official [Twitter](https://twitter.com/LFC/status/1362778981087477760)has given Kopites something to lift the mood.

From the [halcyon days of last season](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53183857) the favoured central defensive partnership, [Virgil van Dijk](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/16/liverpool-fans-react-as-virgil-van-dijks-injury-recovery-continues/) and Joe Gomez, have been [continuing their respective recoveries](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/426357-photo-gallery-virgil-van-dijk-joe-gomez-rehab)from injury at the AXA training centre in Kirkby.

The duo were last on a pitch together at the start of the[reverse fixture in October](https://football-talk.co.uk/159823/teams-everton-vs-liverpool-confirmed-line-ups-from-goodison-park-4/)before van Dijk was injured after a [tackle from Jordan Pickford](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11671/12111126/virgil-van-dijk-jordan-pickford-really-sad-over-extent-of-liverpool-defenders-injury-says-carlo-ancelotti), a seminal moment in the Reds season as it transpired.

Gomez was then injured [whilst away on international duty](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12016/12130175/joe-gomez-liverpool-defender-out-of-england-squad-after-suffering-potentially-serious-knee-injury) and Liverpool’s campaign has more or less unravelled ever since.

As the key duo step up their returns to action ahead of next season as a partnership the Anfield faithful have been reacting…
