# Virgil van Dijk catches the eye on social media following Holland comeback

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/01/sam-allardyce-underwhelmed-by-liverpools-transfer-business/) central defender [Virgil van Dijk](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/30/garth-crooks-in-awe-of-liverpool-defender-virgil-van-dijk/) was the talk of social media on Wednesday night as the Dutchman made an international comeback.

The 30-year-old Netherlands captain was back in international action having made the decision to [miss the European Chamionships](https://talksport.com/football/879821/liverpool-van-dijk-euro-2020-netherlands-return-date-injury/) in order to continue rehabilitation to an ACL injury.

Van Dijk has since made an impressive return for the Reds, playing [every minute](https://www.premierleague.com/players/5140/Virgil-van-Dijk/overview) of the first three Premier League fixtures this season.

Following a [meeting with Romelu Lukaku](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/virgil-van-dijk-gets-better-of-romelu-lukaku-in-a-battle-to-savour-xfjmsn00n) and Chelsea on Saturday at Anfield, the ‘Rolls Royce’ defender had Norwegian sensation Erling Halland to deal with in a Group G World Cup qualifier.

Unsurprisingly the ace was unperturbed by the challenge and despite Haaland giving [Norway an early lead](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58378704), Van Dijk ended the first half in particular with outstanding statistics.

The Dutch colossus finished the night with six clearances, 100% aerial duel success and a [7.70 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/virgil-van-dijk/151545).

In what was an eventful night for the former Southampton man, Van Dijk also had to have a [dislocated finger popped back in](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEdition/status/1433253816107941888) before pushing away a pitch invader seemingly wanting an embrace during a post-match interview.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Thankfully for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, Van Dijk’s [form](https://www.sofascore.com/player/virgil-van-dijk/151545) already looks as though he has never been away.

Crucial to the Reds’ success or otherwise in the short term, Kopites will be delighted to see their man come through [another 90 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/virgil-van-dijk/leistungsdaten/spieler/139208) relatively unscathed.

Superstar player may well have turned agent after the clash as Van Dijk [shared a moment](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1433176368041402369?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1433176368041402369%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.anfieldwatch.co.uk%2Fphoto-liverpool-man-spotted-shaking-hands-with-reported-reds-target-after-match%2F) with the most wanted man in world football, Haaland.

Will we see them link up at Anfield next season?
