# Whether Liverpool will be active in the January transfer window

**Liverpool endured an eventful summer transfer window as Andoni Iraola replaced Arne Slot at the helm.**

After key players like Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson left the club, the Reds drafted in Jeremy Jacquet, Bradley Barcola, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo to bolster their ranks.

There was also a bit of an upheaval in terms of their backroom staff after Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes departed the club.

Julian Ward has officially been confirmed as Liverpool’s new sporting director and the Englishman knows the club inside out, having been part of the system for several years now.

And [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7692532/2026/10/16/julian-ward-liverpool-sporting-director-plans/?source=user_shared_article&smid=ta-ios-share) have now confirmed that the Reds will endure a quiet January transfer window under their new sporting director.

## Liverpool not expected to spend big in January

Liverpool could do well with another right back as Conor Bradley has struggled with injuries, while Jeremie Frimpong has blown hot and cold.

In terms of their midfield options, it goes without saying that a new No.6 is needed.

However, with Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Hugo Ekitike expected to return in the coming months, Liverpool are not expected to sign players midway through the season.

An excerpt from The Athletic’s article reads: “The January transfer window is likely to be quiet for Liverpool.

“By the time it opens, Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni should all be back playing again after long-term injuries to boost the depth of Iraola’s squad.

“But they will be ready to respond if an unexpected opportunity in the market arises, like in January 2022 when Ward moved quickly to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Luis Diaz.

“The Colombian attacker had been on Liverpool’s list for the following summer, but with Porto needing money urgently, there was suddenly a deal to be done.”

Judging by the tone of the reporting, the Reds don’t have any plans of making signings but will react if market opportunities arise.

And as far as the January transfer window goes, that is a perfectly acceptable stance as it is hard to find value for money midway through the season.
