# Wijnaldum expecting tough fight against Everton

Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed that he expects a tough battle when Liverpool take on Everton in the Merseyside Derby this weekend.

The Reds face Everton after recovering from a poor run of form, which saw Liverpool draw three out of four games before thrashing Watford 5-0 on Wednesday night.

Despite the good result in the week, Wijnaldum is focused on the clash with Everton, with the Toffees looking to finally get one over Liverpool after over nine years without a win.

The Dutch midfielder told [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11650821/georginio-wijnaldum-says-liverpool-expecting-big-fight-against-everton):

> I expect it is going to be a big fight,” he said. “It was a good game last time we played them. They were really good, better than all the times I’d played them before.

> I don’t expect them to be less motivated than they were before. I think it’s going to be a difficult game.

> “Every game is different. They can have a bad run and something can change and make them good again.

Liverpool have a one point advantage over Man City in the table, but know that they have to keep fighting to take their first title in over twenty years.

Wijnaldum is also relishing the atmosphere he will face at the weekend.

> Yeah, it’s nice. You use it to spur you on. It’s great to win there. My first year we won there.

> In the derby, their fans expect a lot from the players, they will support the players on the pitch.

> It’s a totally different atmosphere to a normal game, but we go there to play football and to hopefully enjoy it.
