# Wijnaldum reveals Klopp inspired Liverpool response

Jurgen Klopp was the key to Liverpool bouncing back after consecutive defeats, according to Gini Wijnaldum.

The Reds made a shaky start to 2019, losing 2-1 at rivals Manchester City before an FA Cup third round defeat away to Wolves.

Many felt it may signal the start of a decline this season, as Klopp’s men aim to win the Premier League.

Instead, Liverpool have responded impressively, picking up gritty back-to-back victories over Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.

It is further proof of the winning mentality Klopp has instilled in his players, as they remain four points clear of City at the top of the table.

Speaking to [Liverpoolfc.com](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/335277-wijnaldum-klopp-liverpool-defeats-learning-interview), Wijnaldum has credited his manager for the response to the two defeats:

> You always learn from a defeat, even more than when you win games because when you win, you don’t see everything you did wrong,” the Netherlands international told Premier League Productions.

> When you lose games you analyse them more than when you win. Of course we learned. Every team learns when they lose a game.

> What I learned the most was that we still need to keep the confidence; in Jurgen we have a manager who can help us with that.

> That’s what he said after the games against City and Wolves – that we must keep the confidence and maybe even work harder than before.

> He gave us the feeling that we had to deal with it and work even harder to make it better.

The Reds return to action on Wednesday night, with Leicester City making the trip to Anfield.

It is another potentially awkward clash for the title hopefuls, but Klopp’s words should again prove beneficial.
