# Wijnaldum still upbeat despite Liverpool’s draw with Leicester

A five-point lead at the top of the Premier League is still a great position to be in for Liverpool, according to Gini Wijnaldum.

The Reds were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Leicester City on Wednesday evening.

It meant Jurgen Klopp’s side missed a glorious opportunity to go seven points ahead of Manchester City, following their 2-1 defeat at Newcaste United 24 hours earlier.

Sadio Mane’s early strike appeared to set Liverpool on their way to victory, only for Harry Maguire to equalise on the stroke of half-time.

Speaking to [Liverpoolfc.com](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/336211-gini-wijnaldum-liverpool-leicester-reaction) after the game, Wijnaldum admitted the dropped points were tough to take, but said it is still a point gained on City:

> We could’ve created a gap of seven points. At the end it’s five but of course we are disappointed that we couldn’t make it seven.

> I think we had a good start, we scored quick \[and\] after that we had a lot of possession.

> We didn’t create a lot of chances after that, but it was good. They had one chance with the header of Maddison, but the second chance was a goal from them.

> I think everyone was thinking about the seven because it was possible and it didn’t happen.

> Everyone is disappointed, but I think five points is also good. Every point that you can collect is good.

It was yet another twist in the title race at Anfield, with clear signs of pressure taking its toll on both Liverpool and City this week.

Next up for the Reds is a trip to West Ham on Monday night, with a return to winning ways vital.
