# Wilder plays down talk of a Liverpool return for Woodburn

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has played down suggestions that Ben Woodburn could be recalled by Liverpool.

[Speaking about the Welsh international, as reported by Bristol Live](https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-news-woodburn-sheffield-2138799), Wilder explained that he remains very much in their plans, despite the fact he returned to the Reds recently to play in an U23s game.

Wilder confirms that it was an agreement made by both clubs in an attempt to give the player more minutes.

> Ben’s been away with the national squad and didn’t get any minutes there, so we felt it was important that he keeps playing football. And there was an opportunity to get him some minutes. He can do all the running he likes up here in training, but there’s nothing like game action and there was an opportunity to get him 65 minutes or so.

> We were keen, Liverpool were keen and Ben was back with us today. It’s always been an option for Ben to play for our U23s or their U23s, or in a bounce game. Woodburn has struggled to break into the Sheffield United this season and has found game time hard to come by.

Since joining United on loan in the summer, Woodburn has made just one start and a further five appearances from the bench.

There had been some suggestions he could return to Anfield in January, possibly to secure another loan move elsewhere.

However, playing for your parent club’s academy side is a common agreement with most modern day loan deals and Woodburn looks set to remain at Sheffield United for the immediate future.
