# Who will replace injured Clyne in Premier League opener?

Manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne will miss their opening game of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign against Watford due to injury and has said there is a battle to replace him, according to a report on the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-boss-jurgen-klopp-who-13424748).

The England right-back has not featured for Liverpool in pre-season and is recovering from persistent hamstring and back problems.

The most likely person to replace Clyne in the starting lineup is youngster Trent-Alexander Arnold, who has been impressive during the pre-season tour and has become a favourite of Klopp.

However, the German made it clear that Joe Gomez and Jon Flanagan are also fighting for the starting right-back spot and Klopp is yet to decide who it will be.

The manager has been happy with all three players so far and knows their strengths and weaknesses very well.

> Joe can play both positions (centre-back and full-back). When he came back in the middle of last season he was not as quick as he was before, but he’s got it all back and is in a really good shape. We have three options for his position – Trent, Joe and Flanno. We have to bring them through the next one-and-a-half weeks and make a decision.

The manager will watch the players in training and then come to a decision but many fans have been impressed by Alexander-Arnold.

His performance against Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup gained a lot of praise from fans and pundits alike.
