# Williams set for Wales call-up after superb performance against Shrewsbury

Neco Williams is in line for a call-up to Wales’ senior squad, according to the *[Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/neco-williams-set-rewarded-wales-21437534?_ga=2.226355667.890554058.1580719389-2111039688.1579460425)*.

The 18-year-old starred for Liverpool on Tuesday night, as the Reds’ [youngest-ever team](https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/51383154) beat Shrewsbury [1-0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Vd6O_4XMVM) in the FA Cup.

Williams’ long ball led to Ro-Shaun Williams’ own goal that ultimately decided the fourth round replay clash.

Liverpool’s young right-back is set to be rewarded, with Wales manager Ryan Giggs apparently receiving a number of glowing reports about him.

In truth, an international call-up is slightly premature in my opinion, considering he has only made [four appearances](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/GamesPerSeason/1349-129) for Liverpool.

This could actually work against Williams, heaping too much pressure on his shoulders so early on in his career.

I have no doubt that Williams can be a future regular for Wales, though, judging by his performances for the Reds, and assuming he continues at this current level.

He has looked so mature in the two FA Cup games at home to Everton and Shrewsbury, earning respective [eight](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2020/01/liverpool-1-0-everton-player-ratings-2/) and [nine-out-of-10](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2020/02/liverpool-1-0-shrewsbury-town-player-ratings/) ratings from This Is Anfield.
