# Xherdan Shaqiri set to remain at Liverpool beyond January

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/05/fans-agree-with-jamie-carragher-defender-signing-plea-title-hopes/) winger [Xherdan Shaqiri](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/30/liverpool-fans-are-excited-by-xherdan-shaqiris-social-media-post/) is expected to stay at the club beyond the January transfer window, according to a report from Swiss outlet [4-4-2.ch](https://www.4-4-2.com/premier-league/fc-liverpool/xherdan-shaqiri-keine-transferfreigabe/).

The diminutive Switzerland international had been [linked with an Anfield departure](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/shaqiri-left-out-of-squad-ahead-of-potential-liverpool/m0jx688atwln1wwcb06c3rnnu) this month as the 29-year-old [struggles to get regular match action](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/86792) under Jürgen Klopp.

However, the [report claimed](https://www.4-4-2.com/premier-league/fc-liverpool/xherdan-shaqiri-keine-transferfreigabe/) that Shaqiri will spend the entire season with Liverpool, leaving the door ajar for a possible summer switch. Despite making just [seven appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdaten/spieler/86792) across all competitions this term, the former Bayern Munich man is said to be ‘comfortable’ at Anfield as things stand.

[Signed from Stoke City](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11436326/liverpool-complete-xherdan-shaqiri-signing-from-stoke) following their relegation back in 2018, Shaqiri has [come up trumps for the Reds](https://www.premierleague.com/news/945774) on some big occasions despite being plagued by [regular injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/verletzungen/spieler/86792) during his time on Merseyside.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Given the [injury-plagued season](https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php) that Klopp’s squad has endured this term, it seems unlikely that the German would be willing to part ways with anyone who could play a part in the second half of the season.

Having recently returned from his latest calf problem, Shaqiri could be in line for a rare start on Friday as part of [Liverpool’s third round FA Cup lineup](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/419269-liverpool-aston-villa-fa-cup-fixture) against Aston Villa.

A [popular](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/325152-xherdan-shaqiri-liverpool-anfield-fans-ovation) creative influence among many Kopites, Shaqiri may count himself unfortunate to not have enjoyed [more personal success](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/86792) on Merseyside and will surely be desperate to go out on a high if he is to move on to pastures new at the end of the season.
