# Yerry Mina ruled out of Everton’s Merseyside derby clash with Liverpool

Yerry Mina is out of this weekend’s Merseyside derby clash between Liverpool and Everton, having picked up an injury.

The Colombian was forced off with a calf issue in the Blues’ 3-1 defeat at home to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Liverpool host their local rivals on Saturday evening in what could be a crucial game in the top-four battle. Everton are currently [three points behind](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) the Premier League champions with a game in hand.

[Speaking](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/carlo-ancelotti-delivers-injury-update-19862393) after last night’s match, Carlo Ancelotti admitted it looks highly likely that Mina would feature at Anfield, saying: “Mina had a problem on his calf. I think he will not be available for the game on Saturday.”

Mina’s likely absence is a blow for Everton, considering his experience and physicality could have been an asset on Saturday night in a game of such magnitude.

He has started 19 of his side’s Premier League matches this season, averaging a dominant 3.1 aerial duels per game ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/318432/Show/Yerry-Mina)), and brings leadership from the back.

It means that either Mason Holgate or Ben Godfrey is expected to partner Michael Keane at centre-back on Saturday, arguably heightening Liverpool’s chances of victory.
