# Liverpool ‘Monitoring’ Brighton Midfielder Yves Bissouma

talkSPORT transfer insider Alex Crook has [revealed](https://talksport.com/football/799040/transfer-insider-arsenal-liverpool-brighton-yves-bissouma/) that Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder [Yves Bissouma](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/brighton-news/brighton-graham-potter-yves-bissouma-comments-goals-improvement/) is on the radar of [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/04/joel-matip-promise-injuries-klopp-fixtures/) manager [Jurgen Klopp](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/03/liverpool-fans-react-jurgen-klopp-likeness-fifa-21/).

The reporter suggested the 24-year-old has ‘caught the eye’ of the Reds hierarchy this season and the Premier League champions are contemplating a move in January.

Should Liverpool follow up on their reported interest, they may face competition, as Crook also claimed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a fan of the [Mali international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/nationalmannschaft/spieler/410425/verein_id/3674) and the London club could also make a move to sign the [energetic midfielder](https://totalfootballanalysis.com/player-analysis/yves-bissouma-brighton-tactical-analysis-statistics-premier-league).

Klopp could well be seeking a replacement for [Gini WIjnaldum](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/03/liverpool-fans-are-desperate-for-gini-wijnaldum-to-sign-a-new-deal/), who is [yet to sign a new contract](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-wijnaldum-contract-barcelona-inter-23025280) with the Premier League champions as his current deal enters its final six months.

Crook told the Jim White show: “Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also monitoring his situation as he looks for a replacement for the out of contract Gini Wijnaldum.”

Crook stated that the player [signed from Lille in 2018](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11741/11439777/yves-bissouma-signs-for-brighton-from-lille) is under contract at Brighton until 2023 and with a modest market value of £11.7m according to [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/marktwertverlauf/spieler/410425), the Reds would likely be open to negotiating a fee. Bissouma has [played nine times in the Premier League this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/leistungsdaten/spieler/410425), scoring once.

Bissouma may have impressed the Reds boss further during the recent [1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2020/nov/28/brighton-v-liverpool-premier-league-live) – the Malian was rated 7.5 by [SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/liverpool-brighton-and-hove-albion/FsU) and finished the game with an 88% passing completion rate.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

The [ongoing situation surrounding Wijnaldum](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1363269/Liverpool-Transfer-News-Georgino-Wijnaldum-Next-Club-Premier-League-Gossip-SNT) makes this deal quite plausible – although perhaps not as soon as January.

However, [plenty of Reds fans](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/03/liverpool-fans-are-desperate-for-gini-wijnaldum-to-sign-a-new-deal/) and [Klopp himself](https://www.goal.com/en/news/jurgen-klopp-gini-wijnaldum-stay-liverpool-contract/1d4txcbqodu2u139t3hljlp45g#:~:text=Liverpool-,Klopp%20wants%20Wijnaldum%20to%20stay%20at%20Liverpool%20%2D%20but%20says%20contract,will%20not%20affect%20Dutchman's%20form&text=Jurgen%20Klopp%20admits%20he%20wants,the%20relationship%20between%20the%20pair.) want the Dutchman – who has provided plenty of [memorable moments](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/live/liverpool-vs-barcelona-watch-goal-video-wijnaldum-live-stream-champions-league-ucl-a8903831.html) during his time on Merseyside – to sign a new contract.

Liverpool are well-stocked in the midfield department. having [signed Thiago Alcantara](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11890/12074593/thiago-alcantara-liverpool-sign-bayern-munich-midfielder-in-25m-deal) from Bayern Munich in the summer.

However, with the jury very much still out on [Naby Keita and his constant injury layoffs](https://www.goal.com/en/news/the-problems-will-not-get-smaller-klopp-rues-keita-injury-as/o26hk96gf68c1usx45x240v5b), as well as Wijnaldum’s potential departure, options could become thin on the ground and Bissouma would then be a viable option to replenish the ranks in 2021.
