Sometimes you really regret taking on the player ratings…
Liverpool hosted League Two outfit Plymouth Argyle at Anfield for the first time since December 1961 in an FA Cup third-round tie that may have seemed a foregone conclusion before a ball was even kicked, such was the apparent gulf in class between the two sides. Jurgen Klopp selected the youngest ever starting lineup in the club’s history (with an average age of 21), once again demonstrating his willingness to place trust in his youngsters; the substitute bench was also potent, with Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana waiting in the wings, should they be required.
In what turned out to be the dullest match of the season so far, with the Reds boasting 80% possession in the first half over a Plymouth side unwilling to attack (or even leave their own half), the game ended 0-0 and a trip to Home Park is on the cards for Liverpool in a month already jam-packed with fixtures.
