Liverpool will face a big test of Premier League fixtures in the coming weeks, having to face Chelsea on Tuesday evening at Anfield and Arsenal soon after.
Chelsea are clear favourites in the title race, being eight points clear of second place and 10 points clear of Liverpool, who dropped to fourth following their recent defeat to Swansea.
Liverpool have only won one of their last five fixtures in all competitions and are sorely missing Sadio Mané up front. However looking ahead to the fixture, Phil Thompson believes they still have a fair chance at the title if they win Tuesday night.
Thompson says on Sky Sports “Of course we are [in the race]. If Arsenal and Tottenham are still in it then we are,”

“The Chelsea game next Tuesday is massive and that has to be won to keep us in with a shout, then they’ve got Arsenal so it could be blown wide open, or we could be fighting for the top four if Antonio Conte’s men win both.
“We’ve got a very important month coming up with Tottenham, again at home, coming up. Arsenal also have to come to Anfield so it’s only Manchester City that we have to visit from the top seven.
“Then the final eight games look favourable on paper, but that’s where it comes back down to that mentality issue, which simply has to change if we’re going to win the Premier League.”
Thompson is right, despite recent form, the Reds are still within a shout and will no doubt have a say in who wins the title come May. If they want to get back into it they need to continue their good record against the top six (3W, 3D) and deal with the teams they know that they are expected to beat.
It may be a long shot but it’s not over yet.
