Liverpool in talks to sign Santos starlet Rodrygo

Liverpool have always been a club with an eye on promising young talent and according to reports in Brazil they’ve opened talks with Santos to sign one of their rising stars.

Globo Esporte have revealed that the Reds have been in touch with the Brazilian side over signing youth striker Rodrygo who is yet to sign his first professional contract with the club.

The 16-year-old has impressed for Santos’ U17 side and has been capped at U15 level for Brazil but the Brazilian outfit are now rushing to tie him down to a first professional contract following Liverpool’s approach.

Rodrygo has been regarded as ‘the new Neymar’ in some footballing circles and became the youngest athlete in history to be offered a deal with Nike, aged just 11 at the time. Neymar signed his first sponsorship deal at 13.

It’s understood, however, that the teenage striker wants to continue his development in Brazil and become a regular for Santos before thinking about following in Neymar’s footsteps and moving to Europe.

His representatives are trying to hammer out pro-terms with Santos which will see him receive annual pay increases and goal bonuses while expecting the club to cover housing costs for him and his family along with schooling and any marketing actions.

If they fail to agree terms, Liverpool are ready to offer him a deal as well.
