Redknapp: Liverpool are no better now than under Rodgers

Harry Redknapp believes that Liverpool are no better off under Jurgen Klopp as they were under Brendan Rodgers.

The experienced manager, writing in his column for the Evening Standard, argued that ‘everyone got carried away’ when Klopp was announced as manager and insists that Liverpool are ‘miles away from challenging for the title’.

Whilst Redknapp thinks the likes of Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino have had good seasons, they are not comparable to the trio of Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling, who were un-playable most of the time under Rodgers.

The Ex-Spurs and Portsmouth manager continued with his damning verdict of the team, suggesting that the Reds are lacking in about five different areas across the pitch and need ‘at least’ four top signings in the summer to be able to compete at the top of the league.

After Liverpool’s 3-1 away defeat to struggling Leicester City, Redknapp was, rightly, very critical of every aspect of the performance;

They didn’t want to know on Monday night against Leicester. After 10 minutes, you could see they couldn’t deal with being tackled, hassled and harried. Klopp has good little players who on their day can murder you but away from home, especially, Liverpool look vulnerable to anyone who gets amongst them.

I’ve said all along: they will finish about sixth. I had a bet on BT Sport with Steven Gerrard and Steve McManaman they won’t be in the top four come May, with the loser donating £500 to charity. I still think my money’s safe. They are miles away from challenging for the title.

Redknapp admitted that Klopp was not under serious pressure yet and that he has the full support of the board and the fans, which is crucial when things are not going well.

Klopp’s not under massive pressure, yet. They all like him up there and a top-four finish would be progress for them. It is still within their reach.

Liverpool host Arsenal in this weekend’s Premier League match, a huge game for both clubs. But regardless of the result, it still remains a big issue for Klopp and his men that they cannot seem to win the games they should be winning.
