Tottenham have overtaken Liverpool in the race to sign Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon, as reported by the Independent.
Jurgen Klopp is desperate to add another left-back to his ranks, having been forced to play veteran midfielder James Milner there this season due to his lack of faith in Alberto Moreno, the club’s only natural left-back.
With Moreno now looking set to leave Anfield this summer, Liverpool had been clear favourites to sign 17-year-old Sessegnon. However, Spurs have also joined the race for his signature with their left-back Danny Rose being freshly linked to both Manchester clubs.
Sessegnon would be able to remain in London were he to join Spurs which appears to be a huge advantage to the team that will adopt Wembley Stadium as their home next season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham now look poised to grab Sessegnon’s signature ahead of Liverpool. This will deal yet another blow to Klopp’s transfer plans after Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig made it clear last week that the Red’s other rumoured target Naby Keita is not for sale this summer.
Sessegnon shone in the Championship last season for Fulham scoring five times in 25 games and is now looking to sign his first professional contract with a club.
