Oxlade-Chamberlain wants regular first-team football

The future of Liverpool target Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will hinge upon guarantees of first-team football, according to the Evening Standard .

Oxlade-Chamberlain only has one year left on his current contract at Arsenal and is in talks over an extension.

The Gunners expect the 23-year old to pen the £100,000-a-week deal but he wants assurances of a starting role in his desired position before he signs on the dotted line.

The Englishman made 45 appearances for Arsenal last season but found himself playing at wing-back in the latter part of the campaign when he is known to prefer a central role.

His uncertainty could open the door for Liverpool, provided the Reds can ensure regular playtime in his preferred position.

Jurgen Klopp is thought to be an admirer of ‘the Ox’ and reports suggest Liverpool are considering a £25million move after an initial approach was rejected.

However, Wenger is keen to keep hold of the youngster and will likely slap a substantial price tag on him to ward off potential interest.

Whilst Oxlade-Chamberlain was involved in 17 goals last term, Reds fans have expressed reservations about signing a player who has struggled with injuries in the past.

Moreover, with Georginio Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho among those competing for a central role, he may well find opportunities hard to come by.
