Liverpool are reported to have opened negotiations with Sevilla over a move for their goalkeeper Sergio Rico, according to Orgullo de Nervión, a local outlet in Sevilla.
Rico has a £26million release clause in his contract with the La Liga club, but Jurgen Klopp’s side are said to only be willing to pay around €12million for the player.
The Reds’ supposed move for the 23-year-old Spaniard seems an odd one considering that they already have Simon Mignolet, Loris Karius and Danny Ward in their ranks. However, the journalists and outlet reporting the potential deal are usually veryreliable.
The Reds only signed goalkeeper Karius from Mainz last summer, but the German failed to impress Klopp last season, resulting in the unconvincing Mignolet regaining his position as number one goalkeeper and he performed well once he was brought back into the side.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has not allowed Ward to go back out on loan, so it looks like he is in the manager’s plans too.
Rico joined Sevilla’s ranks back in 2006 and has almost 150 appearances to his name for the club, as well as one cap at international level for Spain.
