Jurgen Klopp says Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana are nearing a return to action after picking up injuries in pre-season.
Right-back Clyne has been sidelined with a back problem, while a thigh injury saw midfielder Lallana ruled out for the first ‘couple of months’ of the season.
Lallana in particular was a key player for the Reds last season, contributing eight goals and seven assists, so news of his imminent return represents a timely boost for Klopp.
While neither Lallana nor Clyne are available for this weekend’s trip to Newcastle, they will soon return to training.
“The update is that both are doing really well but are not in team training tomorrow,” he said. “But both are on a really good way.

“With Clyney it was not too sure for one or two weeks but now he has made real steps and it’s really cool.
“Adam is completely normal, that’s how it was from the first day – how we thought it would be. He is now outside running and obviously improves a lot.
“He has no problems anymore. We just have to wait until the tendon is a tendon again, if you want.
“You cannot rush this. But so far, no setbacks and everything is fine.”
Klopp says there are no fresh injury worries for his side ahead of Sunday’s visit to St James’ Park.
“No concerns but it was quite an intense game [against Spartak Moscow]. We had a few knocks and we will see, but in this moment no concerns.
“I’ll know finally tomorrow probably.”
