Manchester City arrived at Anfield boasting a stellar record that had seen them go unbeaten in the Premier League all season.
City were already a formidable proposition, having put five past the Reds without reply back in September, and with new signing Virgil van Dijk out with a hamstring injury, many Liverpool supports may have feared the worst.
However, an electrifying attacking display in the second period tore Pep Guardiola’s team apart in spectacular fashion before a late capitulation had hearts in mouths right up until the final whistle. Jurgen Klopp’s team held on for a vital win, ending City’s unbeaten run to keep them well in the running for a top-four finish. Goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah put City to the sword, holding on (just about) for three points at Anfield.
Here’s how we rated the Reds.
