Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for Schalke star Max Meyer in the summer transfer window and have remained interested in the Germany international, but they could face some competition for his signature at the end of the current campaign.
Calciomercato report that AC Milan will look to sign Meyer in the summer transfer window to bolster their attacking midfield options, with the 22-year-old set to become a free agent in the summer when his contract expires.
Primarily a creative midfielder with 22 goals and 24 assists for Schalke after emerging from their academy ranks, Meyer has been tasked with playing in a holding midfield role this season in the Bundesliga, limiting his influence in the attacking third.

Meyer could follow Leon Goretzka by leaving Schalke on a free transfer in the summer with his midfield compatriot set to join Bayern Munich ahead of the 2018/19 season.
Barcelona have been linked with a move in the past, while Tottenham have been long-term admirers of the attacking midfielder as well, but Meyer will look to evaluate his options in the summer after refusing to sign a contract extension to date.
