After a respite in the Marabella sunshine, Liverpool’s goal machine continued its scoring ways, this time at Anfield. While it took a number of chances before the scoring opened, the Reds eventually hung four goals on David Moyes’ visiting West Ham, winning 4-1.
Amidst the afternoon sunshine, Liverpool displayed a brilliance that has been burnishing for some time now. The front three, in particular, presented the visiting side with a range of questions that yielded few answers. Only a lack of luck prevented this from being an even more emphatic hammering. The Reds ability to attack from all angles with pace continues to put clubs on notice.
With Emre Can’s opening tally, Liverpool eclipsed 100 goals in 40 matches. Only the near-title season of 2013/14 has seen the club amass that total faster. To think of all the misses this side saw in this match and all season even. Despite already equaling Luis Suarez’s greatest season in Red, lamentations lingered about Mo Salah’s ability to finish. It all seems a little silly now, even though the Egyptian can misfire with the occasional gilt-edged chance.
There will no doubt be days when the attack is off, like recently at Swansea, but Jurgen Klopp continues to fashion a side with multiple ways to win. Klopp’s refusal to be satisfied continued and the Reds were more than willing to oblige with their manager. He might have been happy to see a gritty win but a glorious one like this will serve too.
Here are four findings from the match.
