With a ticket to the quarter-finals of the Champions League all but punched, Liverpool needed to finish their second leg against Porto after the thrashing the gave them in Portugal. Without working too hard, the Reds remained calm and controlled in a 0-0 draw at Anfield.
In a first half that can only be described as patient, Liverpool controlled the play in a measured and methodical fashion. Content to move the ball around the pitch, pulling Porto in the process, The reds probed but were unable to punish the visiting side. While creating a couple of chances, the tempo never reached top gear for the home side. Just before the break, Liverpool looked to take things to Porto with real purpose but could not make it count.
The second half resembled the first with Porto dropping deeper in hopes of avoiding further embarrassment but posing little threat. Liverpool cruised but could not break down the Portuguese. At some point, the Reds seemed unfused about things not exactly going their way in terms of scoring. It became a light training session for the weekend derby and Porto was able to save some face. Advancement accomplished.
