It looks like Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld could be sold this summer as the player and his club are at an impasse about his wage demands.
It’s very rare that such good players become available and whilst Tottenham are still saying publicly that they want the Belgian to stay, if he won’t sign a new deal, then they’ll be forced to let him so
Chelsea and Manchester United are being linked with a move for the Belgian who is valued at £44m by the North London club, but as it stands, there’s no talk about Liverpool wanting him.
Often in the past, other clubs have taken advantage of odd situations where top players have become available, and the Liverpool have been left behind.
It’s great having well-planned, highly thought out transfer plans and in recent windows, Liverpool’s recruitment has been first class. However, sometimes a player suddenly becomes available, one who is clearly a class act, and in those situations, the best sides react and get him in.
Can you imagine a partnership of Alderweireld and Virgil van Dijk? Arguably the two best defenders in the country side-by-side. Liverpool would have gone from having a weak defence to one of the best partnerships in Europe in just two windows.
Furthermore, they’ll be weakening Spurs by getting him in and they’ll also be keeping out of the hands of Chelsea and United, which is another huge boost for the Reds
Liverpool have shown they’re willing to pay big wages to get players in and there should be plenty of cash to spend as the club are in a great place financially.
If Alderweireld is available, which it looks like he is, it would be a crying shame if Liverpool didn’t do everything they can to get him.
