Atletico set to increase Oblak’s release clause to fend off Reds

Liverpool’s transfer target Jan Oblak is set to have his release clause increased by his current club to put the Gunners off the player, according to AS.

His current deal comes to an end in 2021 and he has a release clause in place which stands currently at 100 million Euros.

Fellow Premier League side Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the player having struggled in the goalkeeping department of late with Petr Cech struggling for form.

Atletico, however, are determined to keep the player at the club, but if they can’t then at least make sure that they get as much as they can out of the deal.

Oblak’s reputation has been growing and growing since his move to Spain in 2014 from Benfica and has attracted a host of clubs in him.

He was part of the Madrid club who won the Europa League title last night thanks to a 3-0 win over Marseille in Lyon.

With Liverpool also being in the Champions League ahead of Arsenal it gives them a further boost in their pursuit of the player.

Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin has explained their plans to keep the player at the club:

“We’re going to try to increase Oblak’s clause, but what we have to do is trust him,”

“We know he wants to stay and we want him to stay.”
