Real Madrid to rival Liverpool for Lyon forward Fekir
Real Madrid are ready to rival Liverpool for the signature of Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir, according to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.
The France forward looking likely to sign for Liverpool before the World Cup begun earlier this month, but the deal fell apart late on.
It had looked like Fekir would remain with the French club for next season, however Aulas revealed today that the 24-year old could still move on, and that other parties are ready to enter the fray.
Speaking to French television, Aulas claimed medical issues weren’t the reason the Fekir deal collapsed, that talks were progressing too slowly, and that Madrid have been interested since Julen Lopetegui’s appointment as manager.
Speaking to RT France, as quoted by Mirror Sport, Aulas said:
Yeah, listen, at that stage it was foreseen he would go to Liverpool, I had given it the green light to go ahead. but it just took too long, things were just too drawn out.
He is an exceptional player, he keeps the ball in little space and has an incredible talent. The fact that things didn’t conclude with Liverpool and it didn’t happen in that timeframe has peaked the interest of a lot of other clubs – Real Madrid, but not just Real Madrid and their new trainer.
There is a lot of interest from other camps, so everything is possible.
