Sturridge wants to stay at Liverpool

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has said that he wants to remain at Anfield this summer and fight for his place in the squad, the Independent reports.

The 28-year-old has seen his career stagnate due to a run of injuries in the last couple of seasons, which has seen him pass the 10-goals a season mark just once in the last four years.

Sturridge spent the second half of last season out of loan at West Brom, but he made just six appearances for the club and failed to get his name on the score sheet as the Midlands side suffered relegation to the Championship.

The England international had been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, however Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has this week said that he believes Sturridge could still have a role to play for the club.

The Independent quotes Sturridge as having told the Daily Mirror that he hopes to remain at the club beyond the summer.

I see myself staying at Liverpool, hopefully being part of the team week in, week out.

Pre-season is going well, so for me it’s keeping my head down and building on that. I’m excited about the season ahead and it feels great to be back.

Sturridge has so far featured in all three of Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies to date.
