Despite all of the talk about Liverpool being focused on the record goalkeeper signing Alisson, pre-season match four found the Reds at Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers. Eventually, Liverpool bested Blackburn 2-0 before their trip to the United States.
It took quite some time for the Reds to settle into any kind of rhythm that threatened the home side. James Milner’s penalty miss aside, the first half was mostly uneventful until the final few minutes when Adam Lallana fashioned two chances but could not make them count. Apart from that, the only point of interest was that the Reds looked to try out a slightly different shape, with like two strikers up top.
The second half also started somewhat slowly but eventually, Liverpool’s quality carried them to a deserved win. Not only did they create more chances, they grew slightly crisper and more up-tempo as the half progressed, overcoming the legginess of regular fitness training.
It was not the most remarkable outing but one more chance for youngsters to impress, get newcomers much needed minutes in the system, and work-in later arrivals. It proved a sound send-off for the impending matches against stronger opposition in America.
Here are four findings from the match:
