Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has hailed the recent form of Daniel Sturridge, praising his belief and determination to return to the first-team picture.
The England centre-back spoke following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw away at Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, in which Sturridge was able to salvage a point for his side.
After being brought off the bench, Sturridge fired home a thunderous effort from outside the box to secure a draw for the Reds following Eden Hazard’s opener for the Blues.
Gomez, as quoted by the Daily Mail, proceeded to wax lyrical over his teammate and compatriot’s return to prominence for Liverpool, insisting that he is “right up there” with some of the best finishers in world football.

To have Studge fully fit and firing is massive for us this season. He’s right up there in terms of strikers in the world. I don’t think many players would even have taken on the shot from where he was. The angle was unbelievable. It shows the belief he’s got in himself. All of us at the football club know how good Studge is and we’re really happy for him.
I could see it from the first day of pre-season. He was right on it from the get-go. He has attacked everything. He’s been so focused the whole time in training. He has hardly missed a session.
Sturridge has found the net on four occasions so far this season in all competitions, with Jurgen Klopp utilising him as an impact substitute from the bench.
We all know how good he can be. I am just happy for him. We were all buzzing that he was able to contribute like that.
The 29-year-old will be desperate to be a difference-maker once again for the Reds when they face Napoli in the Champions League this week.
