It has been revealed that Mohamed Salah played a key role in Zinedine Zidane’s departure from Real Madrid.
The Frenchman left Real after their 3-1 victory over the Reds in the Champions League final.
A wonder goal from Gareth Bale secured the victory for Madrid, and also convinced club president Florentino Perez to keep the Welshman in the Spanish capital.
This was seen by Zidane as Perez going back on his word, as the Madrid chief had reportedly caved into the Frenchman’s wishes to sell the player.
The Liverpool Echo report that Zidane had Mohamed Salah on his shortlist to replace Bale, with Eden Hazard and Harry Kane also on the list.
Salah had a breakout year with Liverpool last season but was taken off injured during the final in Kiev against Zidane’s Madrid.
The refusal to sell Bale was the final straw for Zidane, who left after securing Real Madrid yet another Champions League title.
