Liverpool legend Phil Thompson was ‘disappointed’ with his former side’s performance last night as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, talkSPORT reports.
The shock defeat is a huge blow for the Reds if they hope to progress out of their Champions League group and into the knock-out stages, with games against Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain still to be played.
Jurgen Klopp’s side put in a lack-lustre first-half performance to go into half-time 2-0 down. Despite a slightly improved performance after the break, the Reds failed to get back into the game.
Thompson spoke to talkSPORT reporter Jim White after the game about his disappointment.
I’m very disappointed.
I’m disappointed in the performance and the attitude, certainly in the first half.
It’s great tying to step it up in the second half, but with the crowd behind red star, it made it extremely difficult.
The first-half just never got going and it’s something we have to learn from.
I would imagine Jurgen Klopp probably tore them off a strip at half-time, and we were better in the second-half, but we were two goals too late by then.
