Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been named on the final five-man shortlist to win the Golden Boy award.
The London Evening Standard have confirmed that the Reds defender will be up against Patrick Cutrone, Justin Kluivert, Matthijs de Ligt and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe has been a shock omission despite being named on the first 40-man shortlist for this year’s award.
The Frenchman was hoping to get his hand on the trophy once again this year after winning it in 2017, but it now looks like it is going elsewhere.

The winner of the award, which is handed out to the best European-based player under the age of 21, will be confirmed on December 17.
Alexander-Arnold’s nomination for the award is the latest achievement in his monumental rise at Anfield after truly breaking through last season.
He has since become a regular, making the right-back position his own and was named in the England World Cup squad over the summer.
