Pepijn Lijnders has officially been named as Liverpool’s assistant manager, replacing Zeljko Buvac, who has been absent from the club since the Spring of 2018.

As displayed on the official Liverpool website, Lijnders’ job role has been switched to ‘Assistant manager’, thus reflecting the duties which he’s been carrying out since returning to the club in the summer.

The Dutchman was a highly-rated coach, working as a link between the Academy and the first-team before Jurgen Klopp promoted him to be part of his backroom staff.

Lijnders was then given the opportunity to become the manager of Dutch side NEC Nijmegen back in January 2018 and thus left Liverpool. However, things didn’t quite work out for him in the Netherlands and he re-joined Liverpool shortly after his exit from NEC.

When Buvac departed last spring, for “personal reasons”, Liverpool went from having two assistant managers to just one; Peter Krawietz.

Upon his return, Lijnders was acting in the capacity of an assistant to Klopp but he couldn’t be officially appointed until the Reds agreed on a settlement with Buvac.

Now that the settlement has been reached, Lijnders job role has officially been updated, thus confirming his promotion.
